How to Load and Sell Gift Cards on Toast POS

Objective

This guide outlines the process of activating and selling a physical gift card on the Toast Point of Sale (POS) system. This involves loading a specified dollar amount onto the card and then completing the payment transaction for that amount.

 

Procedure: Activating and Selling a Gift Card

1. Access Gift Card Menu:

• From the main Ordering Screen on your Toast device, scroll to the right of your menus until you find and select the "Gift Cards" button.

2. Select "Sell Card":

• On the Gift Card menu, select the "Sell Card" button.

3. Enter Activation Amount:

• On the next screen, enter the desired dollar amount you wish to load onto the gift card.
• Press "Next".

4. Input Gift Card Number:

• You will now need to input the gift card's unique number. You can do this by:
  • Swiping the magnetic stripe of the gift card using the integrated card reader.
  • Scanning the barcode on the back of the gift card using a barcode scanner.
  • Keying-in the gift card number manually.
• Note: The gift card number and barcode are located on the back of the physical gift card.

5. Add to Check & Complete Payment:

• • Select "Done" to add the loaded Gift Card to the guest's check.
  • Proceed with completing the guest's order and payment as usual.
  • CRITICAL: The gift card will only remain loaded with the specified amount if the payment transaction is successfully completed. If payment fails, the card will not be activated.

 

Important Notes

• Always confirm that the payment for the gift card has been processed successfully before handing the card to the guest.
• These steps apply to physical gift cards. If your location also sells digital gift cards, that process may differ.
