Due to recent changes at the federal level, the U.S. has stopped producing new pennies. Because of this, many banks are limiting or completely discontinuing penny change orders. As a result, some restaurants may run out of pennies for making change.
honeygrow uses a neutral rounding system. For cash payments, we round the final amount up or down to the nearest nickel when pennies are unavailable.
Post this sign at cash/POS so it is visible to guests.
When pennies are unavailable, for cash payment amounts ending in:
- 1¢, 2¢, 6¢, or 7¢: Round DOWN to the nearest nickel
- 3¢, 4¢, 8¢, or 9¢: Round UP to the nearest nickel
How to round amounts in Toast for cash payments:
- Tap on the guest’s order.
- Tap Update.
- Tap Cash Adjustments.

Depending on the amount, tap either the -1 Cent or +1 Cent button.
- If the amount ends in 1 or 6, tap -1 Cent once.
- If the amount ends in 2 or 7, tap - 1 Cent twice.
- If the amount ends in 4 or 9, tap +1 Cent once.
- If the amount ends in 3 or 8, tap +1 Cent twice.
- When you’ve reached a number that ends in zero or five, tap “Pay.”
- Collect the guest’s payment.
