What is StateFoodSafety (SFS)?

State Food Safety (SFS) is our food safety certification partner.

The SFS Food Safety Manager Certification is fully ANSI-accredited and accepted by health departments nationwide. It satisfies the same regulatory requirements for Certified Food Protection Manager status, ensuring we remain in full compliance.

SFS also provides our allergen awareness training, in locations where required.

No codes needed! Both the training course and the certification exam are linked directly to your Ignite account. No need for special codes.

Does it cost money?

If you fail your first attempt at the exam, you are responsible to pay for to retake the exam (cost subject to change; $25 at the time this article was published).

What is a proctor?

In order to take the SFS exam, a proctor (or exam monitor) needs to be present. This person gives access to the exam through a session code and validates that the exam requirements are met.

My food safety manager certification is going to expire soon. What do I do?

Ignite keeps track of your certification's expiration date. 2 months before it expires, you'll be assigned the food safety manager training in Ignite.

If you don't see the training course on your Ignite home page and your certification expires within 2 months, chat with the Help Center chatbot to submit a support ticket.

I uploaded my certificate to UKG, but my Food Safety Exam is showing as incomplete in Ignite.

Ensure you've uploaded your certificate as the correct document type—Food Safety Manager Certificate—or it will not display correctly.

Newly-added food safety certificates are pulled from UKG and updated in Ignite weekly.

If it's been more than 7 days since you uploaded your certificate in UKG and the food safety exam completion has not been updated in Ignite, chat with the Help Center Chatbot to submit a ticket. Select Training > Food Safety Certification.

I need to complete a manager validation, but the MIT's Food Safety Exam is showing as incomplete in Ignite.

You can still complete a weekly training validation, even if the MIT isn't listed as 'awaiting validation.'

Follow the steps in this Help Center article to complete a training validation. Part 2 (Step 12) of the article walks you through how to "observe" an MIT even if they haven't requested to be observed yet.
